International Practicum Series 5 Highlights Micro Teaching Practices for Southeast Asian Pre-Service Teachers

The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at Universitas Galuh successfully held the International Practicum Series 5, a virtual academic program carrying the theme “Micro Teaching: Theory and Practice for Pre-Service Teachers in Southeast Asia.” The webinar brought together distinguished speakers, partner institutions, and aspiring educators from across the region.

The event was formally opened with greetings to several honored guests, including the Dean of the Faculty of Education of Galuh University, the Director of International Linkages of STI West Negros University, Dr. Yasmin Pascual Dormido, LPT, the guest lecturer Ms. Ermila Negros Balibia, home lecturers Dr. Iskhak Said, Drs., MM., M.Pd., and Taufik Hidayat, S.Pd., M.Pd., as well as the Head of the Language and Literature Laboratory, Andi Rustandi, M.Pd.

In the opening remarks, Mrs. Sri Mulyani, Dra., M.Pd., as the Head of the Indonesian Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Galuh, emphasized the significance of this practicum program as a reflection of the institutions’ shared commitment to cultivating competent, confident, and globally minded future educators.

The chosen theme underscores the essential role of micro teaching in teacher preparation. In a region as culturally diverse and academically dynamic as Southeast Asia, effective teaching is not only a skill but a responsibility—a calling that bridges cultures, languages, and generations. Micro teaching, therefore, serves as a crucial foundation that allows pre-service teachers to practice teaching strategies, analyze classroom dynamics, and develop their professional identity in a supportive environment.

This year’s practicum took on added meaning through the collaboration between the Language and Literature Laboratory of Universitas Galuh and STI West Negros University. The partnership demonstrates a mutual belief that educational excellence strengthens when institutions work together across borders. Through this joint initiative, the two universities aim to enhance knowledge exchange, promote international academic engagement, and contribute to improving teacher education quality throughout Southeast Asia.

Participants were encouraged to take full advantage of the program by engaging actively, asking questions, sharing ideas, and learning from peers and experts. The session was positioned as a platform for professional growth, exploration, and academic discovery—preparing pre-service teachers to bring meaningful learning experiences into their future classrooms.

The event concluded with appreciation for all committee members, lecturers, facilitators, and partnering institutions whose dedication made the practicum possible. Their hard work ensures that students receive strong foundational training as they embark on their teaching careers.

The International Practicum Series 5 stands as an inspiring example of innovation, collaboration, and regional unity in the pursuit of educational excellence.
