Bridging Worlds: The Power of English in Daily Communication
Ciamis, October 7, 2025 – The English Education Department successfully held a Practicum Series event featuring an international guest speaker from STI West Negros University, Philippines, Dr. Yasmin Pascual-Dormido, LPT. The event carried the theme “Bridging Worlds: The Power of English in Daily Communication” and was attended by all active students of the English Education program. Held at :Language and Literature Laboratory (Zoom Meeting) ], the event aimed to broaden students’ perspectives on the crucial role of English in daily cross-cultural and international communication. Dr. Yasmin Pascual-Dormido, an academic and communication practitioner, shared her insights and experiences on how English serves as a bridge across nations in the context of education, work, and social life.In her presentation, Dr. Yasmin emphasized that English proficiency is not only an academic skill but also a vital tool for building interpersonal relationships in the global era. “English connects people, ideas, and opportunities. It’s not just a language; it’s a bridge,” she stated.
The event also featured an interactive discussion session, where students enthusiastically engaged in a Q&A session with the speaker. Through this activity, students gained valuable insights and felt motivated to continuously improve their English communication skills in everyday life. The Practicum Coordinator of the English Education Department, [Name of Lecturer/Coordinator], stated that this event was part of the department’s efforts to internationalize the curriculum and enhance the quality of practical learning that is contextual and relevant.
